Why do I have a maxillofacial deformity?
It is typically understood that if your face is not symmetrical and this is not due to a skin disorder, the position or size of one of the bones in your face (mandible, maxilla, chin, cheekbones, nose) is probably affected.
There are also cases in which the deformities affects the maxilla and/or mandible and is manifested as a dental-occlusion disorder.
What role does orthodontics play in treatment?
In all cases in which the facial deformity affects the maxilla and/or mandible, dental occlusion also occurs. This affects the position of the teeth, which suffer from dental compensation. The role of the orthodontic specialist is essential in these cases to align the teeth in the dental arcades. By ensuring the bones are in the right place, greater facial symmetry and proper occlusion are achieved.
How long does surgery last?
It depends on the kind of operation. Facial skeletal surgery can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours. After the operation, the patient remains in post-surgical reanimation for another hour and is then moved to the hospital room.
Patients are usually admitted to the clinic for anywhere from 1 hour to a whole day.
If I live outside Barcelona, how long will I have to stay in the city?
About 60% of our patients are from outside Catalonia. They usually come to Barcelona the day before surgery and stay 3 to 4 days after the operation. Our Patient Care Area can provide help and information to make arrangements for your trip and stay in Barcelona.
