Specifications of the Department:

• CT virtual simulation
• 3D planning and dosimetry
• Image and data network between the image-generating unit, the unit processing the planning, the dose-calculation unit and the treatment unit
• A dual linear accelerator unit (beam of photons and electrons) and 120 slices of 5 mm. It has a dynamic function of slice-movement for high-precision treatments (modulation of beam intensity)
• Real-time monitoring by images of the fields of treatment with amorphous silicon detector, for the purpose of ensuring precision in the administration of the treatment (First System in Europe)
• Photon linear accelerator and 3-mm multislice accelerator for stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy applications

Instituto Oncológico Teknon in Barcelona is the only centre in Spain and the South of Europe that is equipped with this micro-multislice accelerator system specially intended for brain tumours, tumours in children and vascular malformations.
