Mhyasthenia is a chronic neuromuscular disease characterized by weakness of the skeletal (voluntary) muscles. It can appear in any race, sexe and age, although it is more common in young women. 1/4 of the cases is related to thymus tumour.

Although it can affect the entire body, the most noticeable symptoms may be weakness of the eyelids, seeing double, dificulty in chewing and swallowing, as well as weakness in the muscles of the extremities or in the muscles that control breathing, which makes it more serious.

Thymectomy and immune suppressor medication are currently the treatment of choice, along with immunoglobulin and plasmapheresis for seizures.
