Registration of birth in the Civil Registry directly from Centro Médico Teknon
At Centro Médico Teknon, we offer our patients a free electronic notification service to register the birth of their children with the Civil Registry.
Parents will have a maximum of 72 calendar hours from the birth to register the birth at the hospital. After this period, parents must go directly to the Civil Registry to register their child within a maximum period of 30 calendar days. If you don't want to register your child’s birth in Barcelona, you must make an appointment at the corresponding Magistrate's Court.
Parents must first make an APPOINTMENT via a QR code that will be given to them along with the necessary documentation to complete this process. Without the corresponding appointment, NO requests will be dealt with. Registrations take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (excluding public holidays). If the mother has been discharged from hospital, both parents must register the birth if they are not married and/or it is their first child.
Parents can also access the Baby Planner service at www.tramitesnacimientobarcelona.com to get free information and guidance on the other procedures they will need to complete for the arrival of their baby. Alternatively, there is also the option of hiring an agency service to handle every step of this process.
NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION
- Medical report of the birth (yellow form), which must be completed and signed by both parents in the space provided (signature of the declarant). It is essential that on the day of the appointment, the form has been completed with all the necessary information and signed by both parents.
- Parents' national identity card numbers if they are Spanish citizens.
- Original Spanish foreigner photo-ID document or passport if the parents are not Spanish citizens.
- Family register booklet or document certifying the marriage, duly legalised.
- Family register booklet or extract from the birth register if the parents already have children.
THE HOSPITAL DOES NOT NOTIFY THE CIVIL REGISTRY OF THE BIRTH
- Parents whose nationalities differ (e.g. Venezuelan father and Colombian mother) and neither is Spanish.
- Whenever the MOTHER'S civil status is separated, divorced, or widowed.
- In the case of TWO MOTHERS who are not married.
- For a surname with declension and one Spanish parent.
- If one of the two parents is a minor.
If the family chooses to register the birth directly at the Civil Registry, they may go to the Civil Registry in Barcelona or to the Magistrate's Court in their locality, provided that both parents are registered as residents in the same municipality. To do so, they will have a period of 30 calendar days from the date of birth and must provide the documentation specified above, in addition to having the white ‘No registration from the hospital’ form stamped by the Admissions Department.
Centro Médico Teknon will electronically submit the official birth declaration form to the Civil Registry. The Civil Registry will send parents a full birth certificate by email, which they can use to carry out all kinds of administrative procedures.
However, in any case that prevents electronic processing, parents will be duly informed of the need to appear in person at the CIVIL REGISTRY to formalise the registration of the birth. The hospital is responsible for electronically communicating the birth details to the Civil Registry within 72 hours. Any other issues must be resolved directly with the Civil Registry, as once the birth certificate has been sent from the hospital, no corrections or modifications can be made.
