UCI-UCUCI-UC

ICU-CCU

Multipurpose unit incorporating cubicles fully equipped with modern monitoring systems.

The Intensive Care Unit-Coronary Care Unit delivers continuous care for patients with serious conditions or in need of close observation and monitoring. The ICU-CCU at our centre is located on the ground floor of the inpatient building, near the Emergency Department and operating theatres to streamline patient admission, reduce response times in emergencies and enhance collaboration between departments.

Medical care in the ICU-CCU is provided by specialist doctors with extensive experience in treating critically ill patients, both medically and surgically. These specialists work in close collaboration with a large nursing team made up of professionals with specific training and extensive experience.

The care of patients in the ICU would not be possible without collaboration with many other departments of the Hospital: Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Haemodynamics, Anaesthesiology, Surgical Departments, Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Neurology, etc. The intricate nature of caring for these patients requires tight interdepartmental teamwork.

Our unit comprises 14 separate cubicles, each fitted with state-of-the-art monitoring and treatment equipment, alongside CCTV surveillance systems. For a more comfortable visit, every cubicle is equipped with a TV, and patients may use their personal entertainment and communication devices (e.g., tablets, mobile phones) to contact their families.

OPEN ICU

As relatives of patients in an open ICU, it is important to follow certain rules of conduct to ensure the safety and well-being of loved ones and everyone else in the ICU.

Below are some guidelines for the relatives of our patients.

Visiting hours

The door will be opened by ICU staff.

Visiting hours:

  • From 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
  • From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The patient may be accompanied from 12 noon to 10 p.m. by a single person who will be designated as the primary companion.

The maximum number of visitors during visiting hours will be two people.

The primary companion can be changed within these hours.

It is essential to observe the designated visiting hours and avoid staying longer than permitted.

Please note that a team professional may ask visitors to leave the cubicle in order to carry out a particular procedure.

General rules

Lockers in the waiting room

There is a locker in the waiting room where you can store your personal belongings and warm clothing. Each locker is assigned to a specific patient’s cubicle. At 10 p.m., the locker must be open and empty.

Health and safety

When entering the ICU, it is important to practise good hand hygiene using the Sterillium gel that you will find in each cubicle. When visiting an isolated patient, ICU staff will instruct you on the personal protective equipment you must use, such as gloves and disposable gowns.

Privacy and space

Please respect the privacy of other patients and family members in the ICU. Avoid walking around the ICU, remain inside the cubicle with the door half-closed and ring the bell if necessary.

Silence aids patient recovery. Avoid making unnecessary noise or talking too loudly, as this may disturb the peaceful atmosphere of recovery. It is recommended that you do not answer or make calls inside the unit.

When can I get information about my relative admitted to the ICU?

The medical information schedule will be:

  • Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The attending physician will contact companions in the patient's cubicle.

Information regarding the patient's condition is confidential and will only be disclosed to immediate family members or loved ones designated by the patient.

To preserve confidentiality, medical information will not be given over the telephone, except in exceptional circumstances.

If you have any concerns or questions, please address them appropriately to the ICU staff.

What is a companion allowed to do?

Meals and dietary restrictions

Eating is not permitted inside the cubicle. When food or drink is permitted for the patient, the rules and restrictions established by the medical staff must be observed. Ensure that food and beverages are appropriate for the patient's health condition and comply with the indications in this regard.

Health restrictions

If you have symptoms of illness, such as fever, cough, or cold, it is best to refrain from visiting. This is to protect both patients and ICU staff from potential infections.

Restrooms

Companions should use the toilets located near the main entrance of Centro Médico Teknon.

Entertainment

Entertainment material may be useful for passing the time during the day (tablet, laptop, books, magazines, etc.). Patients may keep their mobile phones with them, provided they remain on silent mode.

It is important to remember that these rules may vary depending on the specific policies and regulations of each institution and the individual needs of patients.
