Healthcare Ethics Committee

The Healthcare Ethics Committee is a multidisciplinary advisory body that integrates various moral ideologies from the healthcare environment. Its function is to assist citizens and health professionals in guiding their actions in cases where there are moral conflicts in clinical practice, within the framework of respect for human dignity and human rights.

After two years of working as the Promotional Committee for the Healthcare Ethics Committee of the Dexeus University Hospital, Centro Médico Teknon and Quirónsalud Hospital Barcelona, the Directorate-General for Health Planning and Regulation of the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia accredited the three hospitals in 2015 to definitively establish the committee, approving its internal operating rules. Shortly afterwards, El Pilar Hospital was added, leaving the healthcare ethics committee as the reference point for the four hospitals in the Quirónsalud group in Barcelona.

Committee functions

Advise on the resolution of difficult cases in healthcare practice that raise conflicts of moral or spiritual values for the different individual convictions of those involved.
Develop guidelines, protocols or recommendations with guidelines for action that facilitate the handling of frequent situations that may give rise to ethical dilemmas when taking action.
Collaborate in the training of professionals from the four centres in the field of bioethics.
