Treatments and Specialities
The Teknon Neuroscience Institute specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of complex pathologies affecting the central nervous system and the spine, offering a fast and efficient service for patients. The Teknon Institute of Neurosciences has twelve functional units led by highly specialised experts.

At the Teknon Institute of Neurosciences, we bring together specialists from different disciplines to provide patients with a diagnosis and treatment that considers all aspects.
- Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoringTo prevent injuries to the central and/or peripheral nervous system, we perform real-time monitoring using neurophysiological techniques.
- Safe brain surgeryWe have integrated a series of procedures to perform brain surgery with maximum safety and the greatest possible control of potential risks.
- Experts specialising in the fields of neurologyAt the Institute of Neurosciences, we have a team specialising in the different branches of neurology and the nervous system. For this reason, we have 12 functional units dedicated to diagnosing and treating the associated pathologies.
- Laser ablation for lesions and tumoursLaser ablation is a modern technique for treating tumours, lesions or areas that cause epilepsy. At Teknon, in some cases we perform mixed procedures combined with laser ablation.

The causes of spinal pain can be numerous and will vary from patient to patient. For this reason, we recommend that you make an appointment with the Neuroscience team as soon as possible so that they can examine you and, if they deem it necessary, request tests to make an accurate diagnosis. In the case of a spinal injury, it is very important to detect and treat it as soon as possible, so we recommend that you see a specialist as soon as possible.
There are many types of diseases that affect the central nervous system. However, the most common include epilepsy, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Tourette's syndrome, movement disorders, sclerosis, headaches, and neurovascular pathologies.
Alzheimer's disease is diagnosed and treated by a neurologist. A neurological examination should always be accompanied by a brain MRI scan and a neuropsychological assessment. If you think that you or a family member are showing symptoms of Alzheimer's, it is important to see a neurologist for early detection.
Depending on the condition developing in the patient, symptoms may vary. Generally, as these conditions affect the nervous system and spinal cord, some of the symptoms include dizziness or loss of balance, difficulty remembering or memory loss, vertigo, tingling, and coordination problems. If you experience any of these symptoms, we recommend that you make an appointment with the Neuroscience team so that they can identify a possible cause.
There are various types of spinal surgery that are recommended depending on the patient's condition. The most common spinal surgeries include scoliosis treatment surgery, failed back surgery, sagittal balance surgery, occipito-cervical hinge surgery, artificial disc replacement, surgery for spinal osteoporosis, discectomy, laminectomy, etc.
Headaches can affect a patient's quality of life, impacting their mood and sleep. There are specialists in treating headaches at all levels, even the most complex ones that require surgical intervention. At Teknon, we have specialised programmes for migraines, cluster headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, and more.
Depending on the degree and type of scoliosis (curvature) you have been diagnosed with, you may require one treatment or another. In cases where the curvature is really severe and there is a reduction in space within the chest, then the doctor may choose to recommend surgery. In most cases, surgery is not necessary; instead, non-surgical treatment involving immobilisers is used. If your discomfort is very severe, we recommend that you consult a team specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of different types of scoliosis.
