Rational Use of Medicines

Medicines help us maintain and/or improve our health, but it is very important to take them properly to prevent them from being harmful or dangerous.

What should you bear in mind when taking medication?

INTEGRITY AND EXPIRY: Before taking any medicine, it is important to check its expiry date and appearance. Never take medication that has expired or changed colour or consistency.

SOURCE: remember that medication should only be purchased from authorised pharmacies, either in person or online, as these are the only outlets that can guarantee the quality of the drugs.

DOSAGE AND POSOLOGY: It is very important that before taking any medicine, you check that it is the correct medicine and dosage prescribed by your doctor. Always remember to take your medicines according to the instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist.

STORAGE: Medicines must be stored and preserved correctly in accordance with the instructions on the packaging and in the package leaflet. It is recommended that you always store each medicine in its original container to avoid confusion and keep them in cool, dry places, out of the reach of children, and avoid storing them in the kitchen or bathroom. Please note that some medicines must be stored in the refrigerator, so it is important to always check the storage section of the package insert.

MEDICATION LISTS: If you take more than one medication, it is advisable to have a list that is as accurate and up-to-date as possible, with the names, doses, and times you take your medication, so that you can refer to it whenever necessary. In addition, this list can be very useful when you have to visit any healthcare center to provide the most accurate information possible about your current treatment. Remember that when you are admitted to the hospital, it is important to inform your doctor of all medications or natural remedies you are taking.
