Antigen test

Detects the disease through a respiratory sample taken with a swab or thin stick through the nostrils and/or the pharynx.

• 100% sensitivity if the sample is taken up to the third day after infection.
• 90% sensitivity if taken between the fourth and seventh day after infection.

Rapid diagnosis of patients with symptoms or who have had close contact with somebody who tested positive.

• Negative result: does not necessarily indicate the absence of active infection, nor does it exclude previous exposure to the virus.
