Paediatric Neurosurgery Functional Unit

"A child is not a miniature adult". The classic aphorism in paediatrics takes on its full meaning when applied to neurosurgery in children and young people. Children and adolescents differ from adults in numerous ways related to growth, morphological changes, maturity levels, and the nuanced psychology of a developing person. These factors collectively shape a unique path to illness, with adaptations and responses to sickness that differ from those of an adult.

Numerous diseases appear only in childhood, while others begin during this period and continue into adulthood, considered to be specific to paediatric neurosurgery due to their special characteristics.

Paediatric neurosurgery should be practised exclusively in settings that are sensitive to the specific needs of sick children and adolescents.

The Paediatric Neurosurgery Unit at the Institute of Neurosciences (Centro Médico Teknon) provides its patients with the latest technology, together with the renowned expertise of a multidisciplinary team capable of treating any disease in its field with confidence.
