What is orthognatic surgery?

Orthognathic surgery can be defined as aesthetic surgery of the facial skeleton. When one or more of the bones that make up the face (maxilla, mandible, chin, nose, cheekbones, etc.) are different in size, shape or position, the face can lose symmetry. This is known as a maxillofacial deformity.
According to different sources of statistics, the percentage of people who have some lack of facial symmetry is between 25% and 30%.
