If you have recently had a blood test showing elevated liver-related values, we recommend seeing a specialist as soon as possible for specific tests to better assess your situation. You can contact our Endoscopy and Digestive Testing Unit directly by calling 93 212 72 38.
A liver profile aims to study liver function. This is done through a blood test that can identify, diagnose, and monitor potential liver disease.
The most common blood test to detect liver problems is the measurement of liver enzymes, such as ALT and AST, and the evaluation of bilirubin levels. Additional tests may include measurement of C-reactive protein (CRP) and alkaline phosphatase.
In addition to blood tests, other tests to detect liver problems include liver elastography (FibroScan), liver biopsy, abdominal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography.
Symptoms of liver dysfunction may include fatigue, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, and pale stools. However, symptoms may vary considerably between patients. If you experience any of these symptoms, we recommend booking a medical appointment with a specialist.
Elevated liver enzymes can be due to a range of causes, including hepatitis, excessive alcohol intake, liver diseases, certain medications, obesity, and heart conditions.
To have a diagnostic test at Centro Médico Teknon, you can schedule an appointment through the Diagnostic Tests Service. You will need to fill in some details there, and our team will contact you without delay.
An endoscopy is a procedure that enables assessment of the digestive system’s morphology and anatomical function. Digestive functional tests, on the other hand, aim to evaluate the functioning of digestive system organs and detect potential motor disorders.
A gastroscopy focuses specifically on the evaluation of the upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the oesophagus, the stomach, and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). In contrast, an endoscopy involves visually inspecting the inside of the body using an endoscope, which can be used to examine various areas such as the colon, airways, and upper gastrointestinal tract.
